If you don’t know what you want…

other than “to get paid.“

You are doing it wrong.

Time for another installment of

Outcomes matter more than ANYTHING else.

And if you don’t have an outcome in mind you are not going anywhere fast.

Which is to say you are staying right where you are and you are doing a bang up job of it.

What outcome should you pick?

One that delivers value.

If it’s hard to do it in a specific timeframe…

Make tools to get it done.

Here’s an example.

I was teaching a data class in the spring at the University or Colorado.

Most of my students homework was turned in as Excel spreadsheets.

And I gotta say grading Excel spreadsheets

So I did what any sensible person would do…

I built an algorithm.

It’s results looked something like this…

So when I was looking at it, I could quickly get my mind on what I specific items I might need to look at.

Until I did this though… I would have to spend a couple of hours reviewing the data.

I created a system to speed me up.

And that is what we need to do when things are taking a long time.

Make a tool.

Why because the time investment in the tooling pays off.

OMG does it pay off.
